Synopsis
Botal Gali is set against
the vibrant backdrop of Karachi, abode to 15 million Pakistanis
by the shores of Arabian Sea this city exudes a mélange
of layers with varying textures represented by the diversity
of people who inhabit this metropolis. From dialogues to delivery
and all the factious realities that come in between, the film
lays great emphasis to make it an experience unadulterated
by superfluous artistry and attempts at portraying a bold,
confiding and convincing account of those who seek the reek
of indulging in self-deception.
Come take a closer look at Karachi. You will see a long narrow
alley, one that leads those who tread its misleading labyrinth
into a world of make-believe. Bustling with a sea of people,
‘Botal Gali’ is a story of lies, betrayals and
deceit that contours private lives of its people in black
and white, except when the sun set…the night moves and
the hues set the mood.
The film takes a keen look at the city in a pragmatic weave
of convictions and contradictions through an allegorical saga
of a survivor, a seductress and a savior of emptiness lost
in the sounds of clinking glasses, melting ice and mindless
chatter, time spent in wasted brilliance, dabs of color added
by the twist of fate that reeve around the neck of a bottle.
The twists and turns of this fascinating tale contour the
epitasis that brings back reality, only for the night to fall
again. Coveted, consumed and yet condemned in this city of
lights, drowned in the epitome of the elite, Dante emerges
to poise a question, if, instead the demons lie within us?
It is June 2004 and a city’s bootlegger Shahid, finds
his life faced with the uncertainty of economic pressures,
as supplies to bootlegged alcohol is disrupted in Karachi.
Soon enough he finds a brand new breed of ‘Dante's’,
a Vodka that finds its way into the new Gotham city, and goes
through many peoples lives to meet Babu whose sole purpose
in life is to collect bottles abandoned after the night after
they were poured.
Follow Dante as it leads you through the Inferno and the Paradiso
of Karachi.
Welcome to Botal Gali- The Dead End of the City.
